ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of cutting of trees in the Pishin district of Balochistan for the extension of a road there.
The notice has been taken on an application that widening of the 10km Pishin-Yaroo Link Road is posing a threat to about 2,200 green trees on both sides of the road.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court on Saturday, the applicant has claimed that trees could be saved by earmarking some alternative routes. But none of the departments working on the project are making any effort to save the trees which are no less than an asset in drought-prone and hilly areas of Balochistan, says the application.
Earlier, reports were called from the communications and works secretary, forest secretary, director general of Environmental Protection Agency and the deputy commissioner of Pishin about the issue.
