Ex-judge`s car `damaged by lawyers`

LAYYAH: A minor road accident sparked a brawl involving a former judge of the Lahore High Court, a junior lawyer and father of another lawyer outside the District Courts here on Saturday.

According to witnesses, a former LHC judge, Mr James Joseph, along with his junior lawyer and driver, was in a car outside the District Courts when the vehicle collided with a motorcyclist, Masood Elahi.

After exchange of words between the judge`s driver and the motorcyclist, the junior lawyer alighted from the car and slapped Mr Elahi. The car driver also joined the junior lawyer in manhandling the motorcyclist, who turned out to be father of a local lawyer, Nouman Masood.

Meanwhile, some district court lawyers gathered there and on 1(nowing that the father of their colleague was manhandled, they smashed the wind screen and windows of the car of the ex-judge who left the vehicle by the time and took shelter in the court of additional session judge.

Following the incident, Mr Masood Elahi submitted an application to city police alleging that his jaw was broken as a result of `torture` by the former judge and his junior lawyer.

Mr James also submitted an application to the police, alleging that his car was damaged by some lawyers accompanying Mr Elahi.

Mr Elahi was taken to the district headquarters hospital where he was medically examined. A medico-legal certificate was yet to be issued. The city police did not initiate any legalproceedingssofar.
