Govt urged to award scholarships to tribal students

PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar on `education in Fata` have urged the government to take pragmatic steps for ensuring education facilities in tribal regions. They said that it was duty of the government to support needy students by granting them scholarships.
The event was organised at Peshawar Press Club under the aegis of Khadim-ul-Khalag Foundation and also attended by students from the Federally Administered TribalAreas.
Education department Fata director Hasham Khan Afridi as chief guest urged the civil society organisations and philanthropists to come forward and extend financial support to the needy students in backward localities so that they could get education.
He claimed that the government was fully aware of the problems and taking all possible steps to ensure availability of education facilities in tribal areas.
He said that it was duty of citizens to join hands with the governmentofficials and work for welfare of the needy students.
The programme organisers, on this occasion, said that 250 scholarships had been arranged for the students of various private and public sector institutions so that they could get education.
They also talked about the pathetic condition of female education and lack of institutions in Fata and said that financial constraints had forced the people to stay away from education. They said that it was duty of the government to grant scholarships to the needy students.
