One dies, four injured as truck hits motorcyclists

KASUR: A man died while three others and a woman suffered injuries as a speeding truck ran over three motorcycles on the Dipalpur Road near Allahabad Chowk on Monday.
Traders, relatives of the deceased and the villagers staged separate protest demonstrations and blocked the road three times during the day.
A truck ran over motorcycles from the rear side. As a result, Abu Huraira, 24, died while Salma Bibi, Ghulam Mustafa, Yasir and Zulfiqar suf fered injuries.
The injured were rushed to Chunian Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where one of the injured, Salma, was referred to L ahore in critical condition.
The unidentified driver of the truckmanaged his escape, leaving the truck on the road.
Led by Muhammad Arif, a cousin of the deceased, Huraira, the villagers blocked the road at Allahabad Chowk and threw traf fic out of gear. Some of the charged protesters tried to set the truck on fire but police controlled the situation and impounded the truck.
Huraira worked at a shop at the roundabout and about one hour after the protest by his relatives, the shopkeepers closed their shops and held their own protest.
They said that a wrong U-turn on the road was causing accidents on a daily basis.
The protesters demanded arrest of the truck driver and registration of a case against him. On the assurance of the police that the truck driver would be arrested, the protesters dispersed peacefully af ter blocking the road for about 30minutes.
The protesters turned up again at about 1:15pm. Led by Allahabad traders union Babar Cheema, they blocked the road once again. They termed the barricades erected at the roundabout by administration to control the traffic flow cause of the accidents. They demanded removal of barricades. They dispersed again after a dialogue with the police.
In the latest development, the police registered a case against the truck driver.
In a separate incident, a speeding truck injured a motorcyclist near Brothers Sugar Mills in Chunian.
The injured, identified as Osama, was on his way to Pattoki from Kasur when the truck it had a head-on collision with the truck. Osama was rushed to Chunian THQ Hospital.
ROBBERIES: The robbers shot at andinjured a man on resistance near village Bhala in the limits of the Saddar Police Station.
Adnan, 22, was on his way to village Bhala from Kasur when two unidentified robbers intercepted him near the village.
When he offered them resistance, one of the robbers opened fire on him and injured him.
The robbers fled with cash and a mobile phone. Adnan was shifted the DHQ Hospital.
In another incident, two unidentified robbers deprived a motorcyclist, Muhammad Yaqoob, of Rs45,000 and a mobile phone near Bhochar Chowk in the Kot Radha Kishan area.
The same robbers, another motorcyclist, Muhammad Ramzan, near Hindal Chowk, and snatched Rs225,000 and a mobile phone f rom him.
