INTERNET COVERAGE: In an age

2025-05-07
INTERNET COVERAGE: In an age where connectivity powers economies, education as well as public safety, it is alarming that large parts of Pakistan particularly highways and remote areas continue to remain without reliable cellular or internet coverage. The inability to contact emergency services during breakdowns, accidents and health crises has turned into a hazard that demands urgent government action. Moreover, key travel corridors, like the motorways, must be prioritised for strong, uninterruptedinternet coverage.Beyond the highways, poor internet access continues to hinder progress in crucial departments such as education, healthcare and commerce. As such, bridging this digital divide requires serious investment as well as coordination. Expanding fibre optic infrastructure, improving cellular 4G coverage, and ensuring affordability are essential for Pakistan`s progress.

Arslan Shoukat Memon Larkana TICKING BOMBS: Across Sindh, vans and buses continue to operate with illegally installed substandard gas cylinders placed recklessly close to passengers, engines and heat sources. These cylinders are ticking time bombs, vulnerable to leaks, explosions and fires. It is appalling that district authorities and the provincial transport department have failed to take meaningful steps against the practice even afterjudicialintervention. The lack of inspections, accountability and public awareness campaigns reflects a shocking disregard for people`s safety.

Riaz Sohriani Jacobabad DEADLY TRAILERS: This is with reference to the letter `Death traps` (April 18). A similar situation is unfolding in Hub. Our relative was recently hit by a heavy trailer on the RCD Road, and he died before he could be taken to hospital.

Unfortunately, countless vehicles are operated by underage or untrained drivers who neglect traffic rules, speed excessively, and drive recklessly, putting innocent lives at great risk. It is high time concrete action was taken against the culprits.
