Woman, police exchange allegations on robbery complaint

NAROWAL: A woman has accused Motra (Sialkot) police of not registering a robbery and torture case.

The police, however, have rejected the allegation, saying the complaint was suspicious.

Saima Bibi, of Badoke Cheema village near Daska, said her husband lives abroad. On May 27 evening, when she was not at home, two gunmen broke into the house, beat her mother Ghulam Zahra, 65, stole 22-tola gold jewellery, Rs1 million in cash and other valuables and fled. The family alerted the police which visited the house.

Later, the Motra police summoned her several times for investigation, but no FIR was lodged.

She claimed they also provided CCTV footage of the robbery to the police.The Motra police said it responded to the call but Zahra had refused to undergo medical tests to establish torture, Saima also refused to get her mother medically examined.

The police said that during the initial investigation, the incident seemed to be suspicious.

Saima alleged the police never asked them for medical tests. She claimed that even after the passage of 10 days, scars were visible on thebody of her mother. She appealed to senior police of ficers for help.

LIFE TERM: Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Tariq Mahmood Anjum on Monday handed down life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs300,000 to two robbers who killed a man on offering resistance on April 8, 2019.

Reports said Ansar Mahmood, a resident of Manak near Narowal, was on his way to the village by a motorcycle after shopping with his family. Near the village, two suspects stopped him and shot Ansar dead on resistance.

Narowal Saddar police had registered a case against unidentified suspects on the complaint of Ansar`s wife Atika.

Police spokesman Aitzaz Bashir said a team had arrested suspects Muhammad Sohail and Mohsin Ali, residents of Adda Siraj Muridke Road, within a month and submitted challan to the court.

On Monday, AD&SJ Rana Tariq Mahmood Anjum handed down life imprisonment along with Rs300,000 fine to Sohail and Mohsin Ali.

In case of non-payment of fine, the convicts will undergo six-month additional imprisonment. Correspondent
