MINGORA: People from different walks of life here on Thursday appreciated introduction of traffic warden system in Swat.
A 10-member team of traffic wardens from Peshawar arrived Swat to train traffic police in the district. The wardens also initiated an awareness campaign to educate people and drivers on traffic system.
Rashid Khan, a member of thetraffic wardens team from Peshawar, said that in the first phase they would educate people about the new traffic system. `We distribute pamphlets among drivers and also raise awareness through DJ system. We visit bus stands and different squares in Mingora and other areas to educate people,` he said.
DPO Ijaz Khan said that the new system would help in resolving issues of traffic in Swat. `The system will be launched properly in Swat after the team from Peshawartrain over 500 traffic police in the district. I am sure that traffic issues including congestion and traffic jam on the roads will be resolved after enforcement of the new system,` he told local journalists.
The local people appreciated introduction of the modern traffic system in Swat and hoped that it would prove fruitful.
`We witnessed traffic jam on roads in Mingora since long and demanded of the government to resolve the issue. Now it seemsnice to see the traffic wardens streamlining traffic on roads.
They instruct drivers and commuters through DJ system. It is a good sign that people follow them,` said Ibrarul Haq, a resident of Mingora.
Traffic mess remained a big issue of Mingora where more than 300,000 vehicles play on the roads daily. `We welcome the new system and we are hopeful that it will resolve traffic issue in Swat,` said Abdul Khalig, a businessman in Mingora.
