Over 300 police officials deployed to regulate traffic during Eid

RAWALPINDI: As many as 360 traffic police personnel have been deployed on roads to regulate traf fic flow during Eidul Azha holidays as people travel towards Murree and other cities.

Additional forklifts and cranes have also been provided to police, keeping in view the elimination of violation of parking and timely provision of assistance in case of accidents.

Tourists visiting Murree Hill have been requested to contact the help line 051-9269200 and 03077770598 in case of guidance and help.

They have been requested to follow instructions given by the traf fic police to ensure uninterrupted flow of traf fic in Murree city and to cooperate with traf fic personnel on highways.

Instructions include: park in the right place, avoid haste and wrongovertaking for a safe journey, show restraint while driving and never make double line, avoid taking selfies on the side of the road, a policespokesman said, adding police will provide occasional information to citizens about the condition of Murree on the radio station 88.6 and its of ficial social media pages.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Sardar Ali Khan along with regional police officer (RPO) and city police officer (CPO) on Wednesday visited Murree and reviewed the security and traffic plans. Additionally, the IGP also inaugurated Patriata Police Cottage during his visit. A control room has also been set up at Sunny Bank for the convenience and guidance of tourists, he added.

Chief Traffic Officer Naveed Irshad said Murree has a parking capacity of about 3,500 vehicles. In view of the orders of the district government, only 8,000 vehicles will be allowed to enter Murree.

In order to implement the govern-ment`s directives, special checking and counting pickets have been set up in all the three shifts at all entrances and exits of Murree to make sure that only licenced drivers and mechanically fit vehicles are allowed to enter the hill station.

As part of the safety campaign, pamphlets will also be distributed among tourists regarding awareness and precautionary measures.

Heavy traffic will not be allowed to enter Murree city before the specified time.

The seven roads of Murree have been declared as one-way, while additional patrolling officers have been deployed to make sure no one violates rules.

He said additional police personnel have been deployed in places of rush including General Post Of fice (GPO) Chowk, Kashmir Point, Sunny Bank Chowk, Lari Ada, Kaldana, Jhika Gali Chowk, PC Bhurban Road, Barian Road, New Murree and other important points.Meanwhile, special squads have been formed to prevent people from doing wheelies on Peshawar Road, Mall Road, Jhelum Road, Old Airport Road, Murree Road, Sixth Road and other major highways.

Strict legal action will be taken against mechanics who modify motorcycles for this purpose and first information reports (FIRs) will be registered against them.

Hundreds of children have lost their lives and many have become disabled due to accidents in the last one year. Wheelies can cause loss of life and property, the CTO said.

Onthese specialdaysparentsare also requested to take responsibility, he said, adding the traffic police is taking special measures to ensure that the lives of citizens remain safe from accidents.

Keep an eye on them and avoid giving them motorcycles and vehicles at an early age so that you do not f ace any legal trouble, he added.
