DESPITE paying their bills regularly, residents across Karachi face loadshedding of at least an hour or two every day. Indeed, there are areas suffering from 10-12 hours of power shutdowns. Yet, households continue to receive exorbitant bills that do not align with their actual consumption.
Recently, our small family of four received a bill amounting to Rs20,000 for a two-room apartment, causing significant financial strain and anxiety.
This situation is not surprising, as many of our relatives and friends in Karachi have faced the same issue. The erratic service and the unjustifiably high bills sent by K-Electric (KE) consistently burden the people of Karachi. Despite being the highest taxpaying city in the country, Karachi receives unfair treatment from the government on many a count; one of them being the high utility bills against inadequate services.
The federal government should urgently intervene in the matter, and hold the KE accountable for all the sufferings it is causing to the people of Karachi for long.
