2017-09-07
LAHORE: A plan for the security of international cricketers visiting the city soon was finalised in a meeting of senior police officers here on Wednesday.

According to the plan, 10 superintendents of police (SPs) as well as district police officers have been called from all over the province to discharge duty at Qaddafi Stadium where cricket matches are set to take place next week. In addition, police authorities have also assigned the task to 12 other SPs from Lahore.

The authorities have given approval to deploy more than 8,000 policemen on the main routes of the Qaddafi Stadium.

Meanwhile, the army is also likely to be called in for the security of the upcoming international cricket matches in the provincial capital.

A senior police officer privy to the information told Dawn that upon approval army troops shall be deployed in and around the Qaddafi Stadium. He said the home department was likely to send a requisition to the interior ministry in a couple of days to seek deployment of the army for a week.—Asif Chaudhry
