HYDERABAD, Oct 6: Chairman Senate Farooq Hameed Naek has expressed satisfaction over relief work being carried out by administrations of rain-hit districts but emphasised the need for a more efficiency-based relief goods distribution network.
He was talking to reporters at New Sabzi Mandi relief camp on Thursday after reaching here from Naukot.
He is leading a committee of senators to see relief operation. He was accompanied by Senators Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, Abdul Haseeb, Seemi Siddiqui, Sindh Minister Zahid Bhurgari and others.
He left for Benazirabad.
He said that time demanded national unity to tell the world that it was committed to rehabilitation of its flood affected people.
He said that NDMA and PDMA were working. `But still needs outdo resources` he said.
He urged NGOs and civil organisations to come forward and help rain victims. He particularly mentioned a UKbased NGO Al-Khair which is actively working in New Sabzi mandi.
`If we put our act together then this period will soon be over`, he said. He said that philanthropists should come forward and help those whose villages are still inun-dated. `Currently dewatering is needed and so as dewatering machines.
Fumigation campaign is essential and all these works demand collective efforts`, he said.
He said that DPOs and DCOs are working but still resources are lacking given the scale of disaster. He added that crops have come under rain water and houses collapsed.
`There are mobile dispensaries and people do have tents and ration bags`, he said, adding that people should come forward and provide a helping hand to officials.
He underscored the need for improving distribution network which would ultimately lead to redressal of grievances of the affected people.
He said that observations of senators would be discussed in the upper house after conclusion of this visit.
He told a questioner that the fact that last year`s flood affected people didn`t get second instalment of Watan Card would be brought to notice of senators` committee to draw attention of government towards it.
He said that senators had themselves collected Rs350 million including those donations collected by committee members in Dubai.
