Minister to blame for outages: CBA leader

By Our Correspondent 2011-10-07
LARKANA, Oct 6: The Pakistan Hydroelectric Central Labour Union president Abdul Latif Nizamani has blamed federal minister for water and power and his `inefficient team` for the worst loadshedding in the country.

Addressing a gathering of union workers here on Thursday Mr Nizamani said the minister and his `inefficient` team were responsible for all the mess in the department.

They were imposing unpopular decisions on people and compounding their problems, he said, adding one of the big `incorrect` decisions of the ministry was privatisation of Karachi Electric Supply Company.

He criticised the recent move of privatising thermal power houses being run under the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), which had been entrusted the task to manage transition of Wapda from a bureaucratic structure to a corporate, commercially viable and productive entity.

The gathering opposed the privatisation of thermal power houses and announced organising country-wide protests against the decision.

Mr Nizamani said labour leaders from all over the country would gather in Guddu Thermal Power House on Friday to formulate future strategy of protests.

This meeting would decide schedule of countrywide protests and sit-ins in protest against the policy of privatisation, which would create a wave of unrest and uncertainty among workers, he said.
