SUKKUR, Oct 6: A jirga was held at Garhi Hassan Sarki Village near Thull on Thursday to settle a dispute between Sarki and Peechohu communities.

The jirga was convened to settle death of Haji Manzoor Sarki who was allegedly tortured and killed by SHO Thull Asif Peechobu at his private bungalow one year ago.

Headed by Sardar Zulfiqar Sarki, the jirga was attended, among others, by Pir of Bharchundi Sharif Mian Abdul Khalique, Pir of Humayun Sharif Pir Abdul Baqi, Babu Abdul Qadir Khan Buriro and DPO Jhal Magsi (Balochistan) Noor Ahmed Peechohu and other prominent figures of the area.

It heard Sarki and Peechohu community representatives` views and imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million upon Peechohu community, including Rs1.5 million as compensation to heirs of Haji Manzoor Sarki and Rs1 million fine for maltreating and torturing women of Sarki community. The Peechohu community paid Rs0.2 on the spot to the convener of Jirga Sardar Zulfiqar Sarki.
