MIRPURKHAS: A Lyari gang warfare member, Afzal Baroodi, was apprehended in a raid on a house in the Baloch Para locality of Lalchandabad in Mirpurkhas on Tuesday.

Mirpurkhas SSP Usman Ghani told a hurriedly called press conference at the CIA police centre on Tuesday evening that the raid was conducted on a tip-off about the suspect`s presence in the house. He said that a strong contingent of police was sent to the locality to carry out the raid. Four other persons accompanying him were also taken into custody, he added.

The SSP said that Baroodi, who was associated with the notorious Baba Ladla gang, carried a head money of Rs500,000. He said the suspect had received a bullet in his back during an encounter some seven months back.

However, the suspect had managed to slip away, he said.

The SSP said that despite being wounded and unable to move without others` support, Barood travelled to Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar and Mirpurkhas and managed to escape arrest.

Among the cases registered against him at various police stations was a grenade attack in Kalakot that had left 16 people dead, the SSP said.-Correspondent
