Mayor restores public complaints system

By Our Staff Reporter 2017-10-07
KARACHl: City Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Friday declared the Citizens Complaints Information System (CCIS) 1339 restored in the KMC building on Friday.

He said it was an improved system which was upgraded and restored with much effort on the part of the elected municipal leadership of the city.

In an inauguration ceremony at the KMC building together with MPA Faisal Sabzwari and DMC East Chairman Moeed Anwer he announced the system was open to cater to citizens of the metropolis.

Mayor Akhtar said it was a huge challenge to restore the CCIS 1339 which had been established many years ago to give citizens the opportunity to get their civic problems resolved.

However, it lost its effectiveness particularly due to absence of elected municipal leadership in the city.

`Now with the restoration of this system, the citizens of Karachi have much-needed access to various utility service providers run by the Karachi Municipal Corporation and other civic organisations.

He expressed the hope that the presence of such a mechanism would build pressure on those organisations and help them improve their performance.

Mayor Akhtar said all data regarding receipt of complaints and subsequent actions would be put before the media and public to keep the whole process transparent.

Faisal Sabzwari said `the centre would work round-the-clock and has a window open for public to register their complaints physically. These complaints can also be lodged through phone calls, social media and web.

Sindh Finance Commission meeting Meanwhile, Mayor Akhtar has said that the meeting of the Sindh Finance Commission should be called so that financial issues being faced by the civic agencies could be resolved.

Briefing media persons after reviewing road carpeting work on the Korangi 5000 Road on Friday, he said that the KMC was facing financial crunch and it could only be resolved when the SFC gave its verdict.
