KARACHI: The Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) launched a court arrest movement on Friday for recovery of their missing activists.

A large number of party leaders, activists and people gathered outside the Khoja Shia Isna Ashari Masjid in Kharadar to condemn alleged disappearances of their party workers.

On the occasion, MWM deputy secretary general Allama Syed Hassan Zafar Naqvi along with Yaqub Shahbaz of Shia Ulema Council, head of Jafaria Legal Aid Syed Tasavur Hussain Rizvi, and Syed Saghir Abid Rizvi of All Pakistan Shia Action Committee asked police to take them into custody.

Addressing the protesters, Allama Zafar Naqvi said his party believed in peace, brotherhood, coexistence and rule of law.

He added that they observed Yaum-i-Ashur in a peaceful manner though several of their activists were missing since long.

`It`s the legal right of all the missing persons to be presented before a court. Their disappearances raise questions about their security.

`I believe they are not being produced before court because their detainers do not have proofs to prove their guilt.

He said the court arrest campaign would continue until safe recovery of all the missing persons of the community.

All added that his party workers would offer their custody to the police in different areas of the city every Friday.

Later, the protesters moved to the Baghdadi police station to protest the enforced disappearances.
