Calls for early elections part of nefarious designs, says Khuhro

By Our Correspondent 2017-10-07
THATTA: Senior Sindh Minister for Food and Parliamentary Affairs Nisar Ahmad Khuhro has said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan`s impatience to become prime minister and his call for early elections have exposed his `nefarious designs`.

People would never allow conspiracies against democracy to succeed, said Mr Khuhro while speaking to media persons during a whirlwind tour of Thatta and Sujawal districts.

The visit was aimed at mobilising public, Pakistan Peoples Party office-bearers and activists to attend public meeting scheduled to be held on Oct 18 in Hyderabad to be addressed by the party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and other leaders.

Mr Khuhro said that back-to-back failures in national politics, including container rallies, Islamabad lockdown and elections of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Kulsoom Nawaz had made Imran Khan irrelevant in politics. His dream to change leader of the opposi-tion in National Assembly would also fail to materialise. Imran Khan had better not dream of victory anymore and not expect any referee to come to his rescue, he said.

He said that Imran Khan and those of his ilk might continue to conspire against democracy but they should keep in mind that masses would always prefer those who had laid down sacrifices to uphold democracy. The Bhuttos` legacy still ruled the hearts and minds of people, he said. He said the Oct 18 public meeting at Hyderabad bypass would prove to be an eyeopener for all the `tonga parties`. Bhutto`s admirers who had made a woman prime minister of the country for the first time in the history of Muslims would once again propel her son to the premier`s office, he said.

Mr Khuhro said in answer to a question about ISPR statement that the statement was selfexplanatory. The military was saying that it was bound to obey the constitutional government, he said.

About knifeman`s attacks on women in Karachi, he said that it was undoubtedly a failure of police and Rangers. The attacks hadreminded people of the days before the operation, he said.

About suspension of conviction of police officer Saud Mirza and his colleague in Benazir Bhutto assassination case, Mr Khuhro said: `What sort of justice it is that two of the conspirators have been set free and five others have been acquitted by anti-terrorism court.

He said that Sindh government would probably not get the National Finance Commission Award before 2018 elections. This government too was behaving in much the same manner as military dictator Pervez Musharraf`s regime which kept dragging its feet on the subject on one or the other pretext and then left it to the civilian government to decide it, he said.

Earlier, Mr Khuhro accompanied by PPP provincial secretary for information Senator Aajiz Dhamra, PPP Hyderabad division president Nawaz Shah Rizvi, PPP Thatta chapter president Sadiq Ali Memon, general secretary Imtiaz Qureshi, former MNA Dr Wahid Soomro and others visited Jeelani House to condole the death of spiritual head Pir Rehmani and later drove to Sujawal.
