Non-payment of Rs108m arrears Private company warns of closure of Bahawalpur-Lodhran shuttle service

BAHAWALPUR: The management of a private transport company responsible for running Speedo bus service between Bahawalpur and Lodhran has again demanded the Punjab transport department to pay its arrears to the tune of Rs108 million, warning of closure of the subsidised shuttle service.

The demand for payment of arrears has been made in a letter sent to the Punjab transport department, a copy of which was also sent the toBahawalpur district administration.

The letter from the Daewoo Bus service management says the delay in clearing the arrears may lead to financial difficulties for the ompany, forcingit to suspend the Speedo service between the two cities of south Punjab.

It also says that the company wants to purchase new buses for the service but due to the non-payment of its dues, the plan may be delayed.

The issue of delay in the payment of the company`s dues has been surfacing from time to time in the previous years and the company had been threatening with the suspension of the shuttle service between the two cities.

However, every time the government pays some of the amount to the company, promising it to clear the remaining dues later.

The Speedo bus service is a great transport facility for the people of both cities, especially for those doing jobs and the students studying in differenteducational institutions in Bahawalpr, who daily commute by paying subsidised fare.

ARRESTED: The Federal Investigation Agency`s Multan circle claimed to have arrested a man impersonating a minister`s coordinator and depriving people of millions of rupees through fraud.

According to FIA Cybercrime wing Multan, a woman filed a complaint saying one Ahmed Chishti introducing himself as a minister`s coordinator received a sum of Rs4.5 million promising a government job.

When the suspect failed to provide her job, she demanded her money back but he refused to do so. On the victim`s complaint, FIA Cybercrime wing conducted a raid on the suspect`s house in Okara andarrested him. FIA also claimed to have recovered women`s objectionable videos, pictures bogus visiting cards, and fake appointment letters from the suspect`s mobile phone.

MURDERED: A college student was allegedly shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists near Burewala city in Vehari district on Sunday.

According to Burewala police, the armed motorcyclists intercepted Sohail Sarwar Kharal (17) while he was going to college with another student, Ali Hamza, and shot him dead.

On receipt of an emergency call, police reached the scene along with forensic and crime scene units` officials and began investigation. His body was shifted to Burewala THQ hospital for the postmortem examination.
