11 held for assaulting police to free suspect

SAHIWAL: Dera Rahim police on Sunday arrested 11 suspects on charge of attacking a police team, kidnapping seven policemen, injuring two ASIs and freeing a robbery suspect from custody at Chak 186/9-L on Oct 1.

Police had booked 75 people in the case, including 25 nominated women, under sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Pakistan Penal Code.

The first information report (FIR) said ASI Muhammad Yasir led a police team that conducted a raid in the village to arrest Rana Tariq but the mob attacked police when they moved out of the village with the suspect.

The mob, armed with sticks, freed the suspect after assaulting police and injuring three policemen. It damaged the police van also.

The attackers snatched the officers` identification cards before locking them in a room belonging to a local landlord, Abdul Khaliq.

Police arrested 11 people, namely Hamza,Waqar Ahmed, Samiullah, Usman, Abdul Sattar, Farooq, Abdul Jabbar, Zahid, Asif, Sadiq and Azam.

SENTENCED: AntiTerrorist Court Special Judge ziaullah Khan sentenced a man to 36 years imprisonment and imposed Rs1,00,000 fine on him for injuring an old woman, kidnapping a six years old boy for ransom and snatching a mobile phone in a house robbery on Sept 21 at Usman Block Okara.

The case was registered with A Division Police Station.

The reports said two robbers entered the house of commission agent Faisal Haseeb and held his family hostage.

The family showed resistance upon which they critically injured the trader`s mother and wife.

On hue and cry, the neighbours got alerted but the robbers ran away by kidnapping trader`s six-year-old son Zain.

Later, they demanded Rs10m ransom for releasing the boy.

Police had arrested the main suspect, Muhammad Arshad, who was awarded punishment by the court.
