Working group to reform home dept

PESHAWAR, Nov 6: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formed a working group to introduce reforms in the home and tribal affairs and its attached departments.

The home department on Wednesday issued a list of 20 people, who would give inputs to the government in formulation of policies for efficient policing, law and order in the province and overall improvement in the criminal administration justice system.

The group will also put forward suggestions for recognition of police stations on functional basis and solution for command and control, administrative and welfare issues of police stations to improve the `thana culture` by making police efficient, eradicating corruption and improving image of the force.

The working group will have to overhaul the present surveillance system and equip it with modern technology to establish an effective mechanism to address grievances of people at provincial and district level.

It will also form strategy for police to work with local communities to identify concerns and reduce crime and terrorism incidents by meaningful coordination between law enforcement personnel and local communities. Similarly, the group will also work for the modernisation of the system by introducing computerisation and other gadgets and equipment.

The members of group are IGPs Fiaz Ahmed Khan Toru and Saeed Khan, Home Secretary Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, former chief secretary Khalid Aziz, former judge Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik, journalist Rahimullah Yousufzai, former PHC judge Hamid Farooq Durrani, religious scholars Qari Roohullah Madni and Dr Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, businessman Sharafat Ali Mubarak, industrialists Afnan Aziz and Yousaf Sarwar, former chief secretary Sangi Mar Jan, MPAs Syed Mohammad Ishtiaq, Nadia Sher, Nagina Khan and Ayesha Naeem, Peshawar commissioner and additional IGP (special branch).

The working group`s meeting will be chaired by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and in case of his absence former home secretary Fiaz Ahmad Khan Toru will chair the meetings. Bureau Report
