AFTER quite a while it was heartening to read the article `Applause of starlight for the voice of the moon` (Oct 19) by Javed Jabbar, remembering our sophisticated great ghazal singer Habib Wali Mohammad whose personality resembled more of a banker`s than a singer.
His tribute to the singer was related to his youthfulyears ofentrepreneurshipin the field of the media with an attempt at film making and `Beyond the last Mountain` remained his first and, perhaps, last.
I remember the inscription of the movie that remained plastered white for months on the only barren hills of Karachi overlooking the largest residential area of Nazimabad. However, the film could not sustain its wide publicity and was mercilessly lost to history.
I suggest that Mr Jabbar should also, when some occasion permits, write about his stint at acting, as, I as a student with a love for literature, was one of the few who was among the audience of his acting talent in the drama `The man who came to dinner staged at Theosophical Hall of Karachi in the 1960s.
