NAROWAL: The Narowal district administration has registered FIRs against 193 people for violating anti-smog regulations, according to Deputy Commissioner Syed Hasan Raza.
DC Raza told Dawn that district officers conducted 245 inspections from Oct 5 to Nov 5.
These inspections included visits to brick kilns and rice mills, resulting in the sealing of 13 brick kilns for noncompliance.
FIRs were filed against193 kiln and rice mill owners found in violation during inspec-tions.
Mr Raza added that legal action is also being taken against farmers setting fire to crop residue in fields, a major contributor to smog. To control smog, the environment department, health, revenue department, civil defence and municipal committee have mobilised teams across the district.
Additional Director of Environment Syed Izharul Haq said that 210 shopkeepers were inspected during a special campaign to enforce the ban on polythene bags. Nineteen shopkeepers were fined for noncompliance, and 120kg of polythene bags were seized.
