Poet Tishna Barelvi passes away

KARACHI: Poet and writer Abdul Qavi Shakoor, who wrote Urdu poems and columns under the pen name Tishna Barelvi, passed away on Saturday. He was 84. He has lef t behind a son and two daughters.

Tishna Barelvi was born on Nov 22, 1931 in Barell.

After partition he came to Pakistan and settled in Karachi. He was one of the first persons in the country who translated a bool< on information technology when not many people in Pakistan knew about the subject. He was a prolific Urdu poet and columnist for both Urdu and English newspapers. He wrote for Dawn`s Sunday magazine as well. He is the author of a book titled Marxism Ikeesveen Sadi Mein, a collection of his essays, theses and pieces of fiction.

His funeral prayer will be held at Masjid Baitul Mukarram at 1pm on Monday.
