LAHORE: Issuing a `white paper` on law and order in the province, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday claimed that 371 men were murdered in Lahore alone during the current year, and this was in addition to 421 women, with 323 of them slain in the name of honour, in Punjab.
`It seems that criminals from Karachi have migrated to Lahore because the city now rivals, what used to be the situation in the port city,` said Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, releasing the document at the party`s local secretariat.
`Punjab topped as far as crime against women is concerned. Around 1,087 cases of domestic violence were reported during the year, in which 621 women lost their lives.
Around 466 cases were still pending at various stages of legal process. Total 421 women were killed (in Punjab), out of them 323 for honour,` he said.
In Lahore, he said, a crime is committed every 10 minutes.
Listing the police administrative divisions with regard to crime rate, he said Cantt Division tops the list, followed by Sadar, Model Twon, City, Civil Lines and Iqbal Town divisions.
Similarly, he said in the first 10 months of the year, over 10,000 cases of robbery, dacoity and murder were reported and 16 people lost their lives resisting such crimes.
He said the chief minister needed to answer why a city with so many law-enforcing units like Dolphin Force, Elite Force, Mujahid Squad etc was witnessing such bloodletting.
The government should come up with a clear strategy to deal with the deteriorating law and order, he demanded.
Had the National Action Plan (NAP) been executed honestly, the situation would have been much better, he insisted.
