Yousaf Abbas`s remand extended

LAHORE: An accountability court on Friday adjourned proceedings in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case and on an application by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking confiscation of assets owned by PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and his family.

Shahbaz`s nephew Yousaf Abbas was brought to the court from jail to attend the sugar mills case hearing, while PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, who was on bail, did not appear as she had been exempted by the court from personal appearance till filing of reference by the NAB.

A counsel for the Sharif family told the court that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, also an accused in the case, was out of country for medical treat-ment as the Lahore High Court had allowed him to travel abroad initially for four weeks.

Presiding Judge Chaudhry Ameer Muhammad Khan adjourned hearing till Dec 20 and also extended judicial remand of Abbas.

On an application by Abbas, the judge ordered the jail officials to get his medical examination conducted. The judge further directed the NAB to ensure submission of the reference without delay.

Meanwhile, the judge postponed till Saturday (today) an application by the NAB seeking confiscation of assets owned by Shahbaz`s family. The judge directed a prosecutor to also bring complete record of the properties on the next hearing. Staff Reporter
