F A I S A L A B A D : Samanabad police registered a case against five students of the Post Graduate College of Science three weeks after it emerged that they tortured fellow students, recorded videos and uploaded them on social media.
The suspects operated under the name of `Total Mental Group` and often filmed videos of torturing fellow students. They had also prepared pamphlets featuring pictures and names of the group members.
The police sprung into action after the videos of torture made headlines on Thursday.
College officials said an alumnus along with some current students of the college and other institutions had formed a group, who often created trouble for students and teachers. Thegroup often thrashed the students outside the college. The official said they had submitted an application to the police for action, but the authorities sat on it for three weeks.
A case was registered on the complaint of Arshad Saeed of Muzaffar Colony whose son, Mohsin, had also been thrashed by this group on Nov 19. The application had been submitted weeks ago. The case was registered under sections 377 and 511 against Hamza, Talha, Sameer and two unidentified others.
College teachers said Sameer had been handed over to police when the group beat up Mohsin in the presence of college guards. However, the suspect was released later.
Police claimed that four suspects were already in custody and raids would be conducted to arrest the rest.
