SUKKUR: Stage drama in Sukkur stood revived after a couple of decades when the city`s Arts Council, in collaboration with the National Academy of Performing Arts (Napa), arranged a Sindhi drama Suta Uthi Jaag in the Singhar Ali Saleem Auditorium of the Sukkur Cultural Complex on Monday night.

The event drew a large number of people from within and outside the city remarkably encouraging the artists, the council, Napa and also the district administration.

The script of the drama is written by late Loang Sheikh and directed by Hassan Abbas.

The cast included Wafa Dildar, Rimsha Shehzadi, Hassan Abbas, Ayesha Mahak, Saleem Raja, Zohaib Mahar and Mazhar Sheikh who performed exceptionally well and received applause from the audience.

They appreciated the council and Napa for reviving the lost trend in Sukkur.

They hoped that all the stakeholders would endeavour to provide best possible entertainment to the people of Sukkur by organising stage dramas at the council and different other public places.

Speaking to the media, Sukkur Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Phull described revival of stage drama in this part of the country as a significant development.

He said stage drama was of prime importance in Sindhi art and literature because people saw a reflection of their own real life in it.

Sukkur Arts Council president Mumtaz Bukhari, a known writer, recalled that the first stage drama in Sukkur was held almost two decades back. Its revival with one of the best Sindhi plays, Suta Uthi Jaag, will definitely help popularise the trend at a fast pace in this district. The revived trend would also encourage talent to come forward and get recognised through their performance, he added.
