LAKKI MARWAT: The police and the Frontier Constabulary repulsed terrorist attacks on their installations in Bannu district late Thursday night.

A police official confirmed the attacks and said that terrorists launched a multi-pronged attack on a police post located along the busy PeshawarKarachi Highway in Landhi Jalandhar area.

He said that the terrorists used light and heavy weapons in a bid to breach the police building. `After knowing about the attack, local residents made announcements in mosques` loudspeakers and came out of their houses to assist police,` he said.

The official said that the exchange of fire between the cops backed by armed villagers and the terrorists continued for over one hour, leaving a police official, identified as Asifullah, injured. `An effective response by policemen forced the attackers to flee,` he added.

Shortly after the first attack, terrorists carried out another two-pronged attack on the Frontier Constabulary installation in Naizam Bazaar area. `The FC soldiers fought bravely and repulsed the attack,` claimed the official, saying that the law enforcement personnel remained safe in the strike.

After the incident, the police beefed up security in the district and launched a search in the surrounding areas for the assailants.
