PESHAWAR: The Qaumi Watan Party on Wednesday urged the government to avoid slackness and take concrete steps to eradicate terrorism from the country once and for all and thus protecting public life and property.
QWP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chairman and parliamentary leader in the provincial assembly Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao told a party meeting here that a parliamentary and judicial commission should be formed to probe the Dec 16 Army Public School Peshawar massacre and arrest all facilitators of the assassins for exemplary punishment.
He said terrorism had paralysed the normal life in the country worrying the people about their protection.
Sikandar said the people were panicl `No doubt, the Peshawar tragedy has united the entire nation but still there is a need that solid steps be taken to overcome the menace of terrorism. We cannot afford to miss this opportunity of unity to eradicate terrorism,` he said.
The QWP leader said sustainable peace was a prerequisite for development.
He said it was important to take action against all militants without subscribing to the policy of discriminating between the good Taliban and the bad Taliban.
`They all (Taliban) have made the people`s lives extremely miserable,` he said.
Sikandar said over 50,000 people including women and children had been killed in acts of terrorism over the last almost a decade.
`The time has come to bring an end to process of killing of the innocent citizens. We have no excuse now,` he said.
The QWP leader said the QWP was committed to raising voice for the prosperity of the Pakhtuns, saying the people of KP province were the worst affected in the war on terror but they were yet to be supported properly.
`The Pakhtuns have been exposed to untold miseries over the last 12 years,` he said.
Sikandar criticised policies of the Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf-led provincial government, saying it didn`t bring any change in the people`s life and failed to honour the pledges made by the ruling party to the people during the election campaign.
`The provincial government couldn`t launch any uplift project in its one and a half years rule and therefore, the people are fed up with it,` he said.
The QWP leader urged the government to address the problems of internally displaced persons on priority basis saying the IDPs had suffered a lot.
He said displaced families had rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the restoration of peace and therefore, it was the duty of the government to provide them with facilities besides taking suitable steps for their early rehabilitation.
