Green belt` for Delhi

2022-02-08
DELHI: The Delhi Improvement Trust has under consideration the preparation of a `Green Belt` Scheme for the rural area around the city of Delhi. The Belt will be six furlongs deep and located at a distance of 7 to 71/2 miles from the General Post Office. The area on the east of the river Jumna and the Cantonments are, at present, not included in the scheme. The land covered by the scheme is, generally speaking, not of the best quality and ... consists mostly of hilly and flood-irrigated soil. The scheme is designed to fix the limits of the urban expansion of Delhi and to stabilise agriculture and rural conditions beyond that limit. It is also proposed to locate a certain number of dairies, poultry farms, and allied enterprises in this area.

Wholesale acquisition of land is not contemplated. Every effort will be made to safeguard the interest of persons likely to be affected by the scheme. In this connection the proposals in view are: (1) To provide as far as possible, alternative lands to displaced person if any; (2) In suitable cases to encourage the villagers themselves to undertake and run the enterprises outlined in the scheme... .
