LAHORE: Amid reports that the PML-N government in the Centre has sent two officers to Punjab to appoint one of them as the director general (DG) of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), 15 other senior police officers have been reshuffled against non-field assignments.

Of 15 officers, 14 were BPS-20 police officers and most of them were posted against BPS-21 slots in Central PoliceOffice (CPO) and other units of the Punjab Police.

Some of them have been serving as regional police officers and against other important field assignments in Punjab during the tenure of the PTI/PML-Q in the province. They were later removed from their respective positions and made officers on special duty (OSDs) by the caretaker government for reportedly having political affiliation with the PTIPML-Q.

In the related development, the Establishment Division Islamabad has placed the services of two police officers, namely DIG Zeeshan Asghar and SSP Sohail Zafar Chattha, at the disposal of the Punjab government for their new postings in the province.

Of them, Mr Chattha was serving asthe city police officer in Islamabad and he was likely to be made Punjab ACE DG, an official source said and added that there were reports that the PML-N government in the Centre brought him back in Punjab to give him some `hard targets` as he was famous for his aggressive mode of administration.

Mr Chattha had played a key role in the massive agitation movement of the PTI in Islamabad where many anti-terrorism cases were registered against party chairman Imran Khan and other top leadership.

The source said Zafar Chattha was among 11 former district police officers of Sheikhupura when the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had launched its investigation into the allegations of corruption and embezzlement inthe official funds utilised from 2012 to 2019. They were the drawing and disbursing officers and NAB had extended the scope of investigation to some districts, including Sheikhupura, in the wake of the allegations of corruption surfaced in the accounts of the Sahiwal district police in 2019.
