Police get three days to recover lawyer

L AHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday gave another three days to the inspector general of Punjab police for the recovery of alleged missing Advocate Amir Saeed Rawn, an adviser to former chief minister Parvez Elahi.

Earlier, IGP Usman Anwar appeared before the court and stated that sincere efforts were being made to trace the whereabouts of the missing lawyer. He said the police were fully conversant with the anxiety among the legal fraternity.

Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry allowed three more days to the police for the recovery of the lawyer and adjourned the hearing of a habeas corpus petition till Feb 10.

Adam Saeed Rawn, the brother of the lawyer, filed a petition alleging that the police abducted Amir and kept inillegaldetention at an undisclosed place.

He said the police picked up his brother on political grounds at the behest of the government. He asked the court to order the police to produce the allegeddetainee before the court.

Justice Chaudhry also issued notices to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the AntiC o r r u p t i o n Establishment (ACE) and the police on a petition seeking recovery of Muhammad Khan Bhatti, former principal secretary to the chief minister.

Bhatti`s wife Kausar Parveen filed the petition alleging that her husband had been abducted by the respondent agencies. She said her husband had not been produced before any court of law since his alleged abduction.

She asked the courtto order the respondents to produce her husband before the court and set him at liberty.

USMAN DAR: The judge also issued notices on a separate petition by PTI leader Usman Dar accusing the FIA, ACE and the police of causing harassment to him.

The petitioner asked the court to summon details of the cases registered against him and restrain the respondents from extending harassment to him.

The judge sought replies from the respondents by Feb 13.
