ATH doctors protest colleague`s manhandling

ABBOTTABAD: Doctors at the Ayub Teaching Hospital (AT H), Abbottabad, on Tuesday observed a complete strike against the alleged manhandling of their colleague by relatives of a patient at the hospital`s emergency department and announced to boycott the OPD for indefinite period.

The doctors gathered in front of pharmacy and condemned the incident in which Dr Zahid was allegedly manhandled by relatives of a female patient af ter she expired in the emergency department on Sunday (March 5).

They demanded action against the alleged attackers and security staff who, they said, failed to protect the doctor.

The doctors also held a meeting with the medical director and asked him to take action against security staff concerned and get an FIR registered against the attackers. The medical director assured them of forming a committee to probe the matter.

One Maryam Bibi, an aged patient, was brought to the hospital`s emergency in a critical condition, but she did not survive. Later, the attendants allegedly manhandled the doctor.

METERREADERSWARNED:Superintendentof Pesco, Hazara circle, Qazi Tahir has asked the meter readers to ensure inclusion of visible pictures of the reading in the bills.

Speaking at a meeting, he said that the relevant SDO and supervisor should monitor the work of meter readers, adding that in case of any mistake they would also face action.

Meanwhile, officials of the Mirpur police station here could not trace the missing BBA student of Comsats Institute of Information Technology, Hamza Faroogi.

Fatehul Aziz told media persons that his son, who was residing in the institute`s hostel, was missing since Jan 18, which was reported to the Mirpur police the very next day.

Subsequently, the police registered FIR No 61 on Jan 27, but could not find any clue to the missing student. Mr Aziz, who hails from Swabi and has been residing in Telephone Factory area in Haripur, said that he had given details of his son`s mobile phone to the police and still no progress has been reported.
