PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has asked the police and other relevant departments to crack down on elements involved in anti-social and criminal activities and take them to task as per the law of the land.

There is no room for criminals and antisocial elements in the province as the provincial government has implemented the National Action Plan to the letter, said the chief minister while chairing a meeting on implementation of NAP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the CM office here on Tuesday.

MPA Shaukat Yousafzai, chief secretary Abid Saeed, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani, additional chief secretary Azam Khan, additional chief secretary Fata, administrative heads of the departments, additional secretary national security PM`s Office, commandant FC, DIG CTD, AIG Special Branch, director FIA and zonal director PTA attended the meeting.

The meeting was given a presentation on the progress made in the implementation of NAP. It was informed that 179 terrorists were prosecuted in the court of law and considerable reduction had been witnessed in the distribution of hate materials in 2016 compared to 2015.

The chief minister asked the law enforcers to try their best for sorting out legal avenues for curbing the menace of terrorism. He directed them to improve intelligence gathering and focus on sensitive nature crimes and cases.

The meeting was also apprised about the action taken against financing of terrorists` outfits and it was told that 134 Hundi (illegal business transactions) shops had been shut. Anti-Terrorist Force has been created to achieve the desired goals, it said.

The CM on this occasion called for taking more stringent measures to stop Hundi businessin the province.

The meeting was told that registration and regulation of the religious seminaries had been linked with the department of industries. The chief minister said that the process of registration should not stop and be done by the department of industries unless the education department was fully ready for the tasl(.

The meeting was told that considerable reduction had been observed in threateningcalls due to border management. The chief minister asked the respective authorities to find out elements involved in such calls.

It was told that the number of registered Afghan refugees was 0.65 million and unregistered 0.6 million in the province. In all, 287,763 refugees have been repatriated between January and October 2016.

Mr Khattak called for proper registration of the people whether Pakistanis or Afghans and the KP government would give timeline to this effect to the federal government. The registration of Afghan refugees should be taken seriously, he said.

He said that the provincial government had started work on the establishment of a forensic lab to bring improvement in the criminal justice system. The chief minister said that the FIA in line with the KP police should launch a crackdown to curb Hawala and Hundi business in the province.
