Unhealthy approach

2023-03-08
THE recent advertising campaign by one ofthe Pakistan SuperLeague(PSL) franchises, featuringits cricketers eating burgers from a famous multinational fast food chain, has raised concerns about the irrational approach of the franchise towards health and nutrition.

This campaign not only goes against the advice given to sportsmen to avoid consumption of junk foods, but also encourages people to consume unhealthy foods, which can have a lotof detrimental effects on their health.

Fast foods, such as burgers, fries, and soda are high in calories, sugar and saturatedfats, andhave been linked to a host of health problems, including obesity, heart disease and diabetes. As such, athletes and sportsmen are particularly advised to avoid these types of foods, and to focus on a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates.

However, the franchise concerned seems to have taken an irrational approach towards nutrition by featuring its cricketers consuming these unhealthy foods in their advertising campaign.

By doing so, the franchise is not only setting a bad example for its fans, it is also putting the health of its own players at risk.

Furthermore, the sponsorship of that fast food chain by the franchise sends a message that it is acceptable to consume unhealthy foods and that the franchise is willing to promote these products even if they are known to be harmful to health.

This is a dangerous message to send, particularly to young people who may be more susceptible to the influence of endorsements and advertising campaigns.
