LAHORE: Fahad Ahmad and Khuzaima Shahzad grabbed the Under-17 men`s doubles crown for Pakistan`s only title success in the Badminton Asia Regional (South Asia) Junior U-17 and U-15 Championships in Islamabad on Thursday.

Fahad and Khuzaima won 21-18, 18-21, 21-19 against Sri Lankans Thejana Herath and Mihila Jayaweera, their efforts helping Pakistan finish second overall in the Under-17 category, where their compatriots Samha Naveed and Roshnay Ihsan lost the women`s doubles final 9-21, 7-21 to Luckshana Kumar and Nethmi Ratnayake.

Sri Lanka topped both categories with Pakistan ending third in the Under-15, behind second-placed Nepal, where Amavan Amarsinghe won 21-15, 21-17 against hosts` Abdul Haseeb in the singles final.

Amarsinghe also won the doubles crown alongside Chenal Dewshan Madapathage, beating Pakistan`s Shahzain Malik and Muhammad Reyan 21-14, 21-18.

There was another loss for Pakistan in the women`s doubles final where Thenuki Ayanth de Silva and Benuri Jananga Vidyathalaka of Sri Lanka downed Maham Ammad ZIA and Romysa Faisal 21-7 21-8.-Sports Reporter
