Charge-sheet admitted for hearing in KU teacher murder case

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court admitted on Tuesday a chargesheet for hearing and issued warrants for the arrest of absconders in a case pertaining to the murder of KarachiUniversity`s deanofIslamic Studies Prof Dr Shakeel Auj.

The investigation officer chargesheeted the held suspect, Mohammad Mansoor, who was arrested on Jan 28, and showed Fahim Jabalpuri and Ehtasham as absconders.

The charge-sheet stated that the held suspect along with his accomplices fired at the vehicle of the slain professor and the murder weapon, a 9mm pistol, was found in a garbage dump near the scene of crime on a lead provided by the suspect.

It said that he was also booked under the Sindh Arms Act, 2013.

An eyewitness had also rightlypicked out the suspect during an identification parade before a judicial magistrate, it added.

Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of the ATC-I admitted the chargesheet for hearing and issued nonbailable warrants against the absconders till April 10.

According to the prosecution, Prof Auj was gunned down on main University Road at the Nipa Bridge in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sept 18, 2014 when he along with a colleague and a student was on his way to attend a ceremony at the Iranian Cultural Centre in Clifton. The female student of the late professor also sustained injuries in the attack.

A case was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on a complaint of a son of the slain professor at the Aziz Bhatti police station.
