LAHORE: A convict was hanged in Kot Lakhpat Central Jail on Tuesday.

Tayyab was found guilty of killing a man, Abrar Husain, in Toba Tek Singh in 2001 during a sectarian clash and was awarded death sentence.

Jail officials were deployed in and around the jail at the time of his hanging to avoid any untoward incident.

The federal government had lifted its moratorium on the death penalty on March 10 in the wake of Peshawar school massacre in which more than 148, including 130 schoolchildren and teachers, were killed.
