Rashid alleges Rs16bn scam in LDA City

LAHORE: Alleging irregularities worth billions of rupees in the LDA City project, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mahmoodur Rashid has announced raising the issue in the assembly and holding a street protest if the government does not mend its ways.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said four private companies, owned by the favourites of the government, had so far collected Rs16 billion in the name of the scheme, using name of a state entity.

Not a single penny of that amount had gone to the LDA, Rashid said, alleging the government was using strong-arm tactics, like blocking water supply to the crops on the land, for forcing the people to sell out their agriculture land for the scheme.

He announced moving an adjournment motion in the assembly on the issue and demanded the chief minister as chairman of LDA take a notice of it fearing that the people would be defrauded of their hard-earned money through the scheme.

He warned that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf along with the affected landowners would resort to street protest if the chief minister did not act.
