GUJRANWALA: The girls hostel of the Child Protection Bureau has been lying closed for the last four years for lack of staff while the rescued women and girls are being sent to a local protection home on the orders of the court, it is learnt.
Reports said female staff was not posted to the girls hostel which had been constructed in 2011. As a result of which women rescued by the bureau from various parts of the city were being sent to a local protection home or handed over to their heirs after producing them in court.
When contacted, a senior officer of the bureau, Ahmad Cheema, saidfemale staff had been arranged and the hostel would be functional soon.
MURDER SUSPECTS HELD: The Garjakh city division police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the killing of a religious leader and district peace committee member, Syed Muzahir Ali alias Pary Shah, and seized arms from their possession.
City Police Officer Waqas Nazir said Pary Shah was gunned down by motorcyclists on Ghoray Shah Road when he was on his way along with his nephew Syed Haider Ali by a car on March 20.
He said a team under the supervision of CIA SP Tahir Magsood Cheena and DSP Imran Abas Chadher arrested two suspects namely Ferzand Ali Dogar and Bilawal Dogar of Kotli Rustam locality. He said the suspects confessed that they had snatched two bikes and cash from passersby and sig-nalled a motorist to stop. The suspects opened fire when the car occupantdidnotstopthevehicle,he said The CPO said the suspects claimed that they came to know next day that the deceased was Pary Shah. Police recovered two pistols and looted motorcycles from their possession.
He said the suspects had shaved their heads and moustaches to conceal their identity. The CPO announced award and commendation certificates for the raiding party.
FLORAL EXHIBITION: The Cantonment authorities arranged on Tuesday the annual floral exhibition as part of the spring festival at Nishan-i-Manzil, Gujranwala.
