LAHORE: The capital city police remained on their toes on Sunday after receiving alert that about four suicide bombers had entered the city to carry out attacks on sensitive installations.

According to the alert issued by the secret agencies, four suicide bombers were tasked to carry out attacks on important civil and military installations. It further states that as per technological scrutiny, all the potential bombers hailed from South Waziristan, one from Waziristan belt while three from Mehsud belt.

The suspected suicide bombers were identified as Muhammad Shafique, Siddiqullah Khan, Zarmanuddin Khan and Muhammad Anwer Khan.

After receiving the alert, the pohce started search operadons in different areas of the city.

SP Security Abadit Nisar told Dawn that the security alert was not specific for the Lahore. `It`s a general threat alert and all the provincial police chiefs receivedit.

He said more than 6,000 policemen were deployed in the provincialcapital,especially at its churches, mosques and outside parks.

However, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Dr Haider Ashraf directed all divisional superintendents of police (SPs) to intensify security in their areas and personally monitor the situation. He said the security personnel should be deployed at all important buildings, sensitive locations, public places and all entry and exit points of the city. He also directed Dolphin Force and Police Response Unit to intensify the patrolling in sensitive locations of the city and check credentials of all the citizens by using biometric devices. He said every vehicle entering the city should be checked and motorcyclists and other vehicles should also be monitored through CCTV cameras.

The DIG appealed to the public to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies and provide information to them about any untoward situation.

Another police official, on condition of anonymity, said the security agencies had taken 10 suspects into custody who had been shifted to undisclosed locadonsforinterrogadons.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) arrested four suspects involved in weapons smuggling from Sherakotandrecoveredweapons from their possession.

The Rangers personnel handed the suspects overto Sherakot pouce and registered a case against them.

The suspects were arrested during a raid at a house in the Sherakot area andrecoveredweapons from a car. The suspects include Moazim, Babar, Gulzar and Fida Naseer. They used to smuggle weapons from Islamabad to Lahore.
