SAHIWAL: Two minor siblings drowned in 3-L canal along Tarikhni Road in Arif wala on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses said Aneela, 25, a resident of 345/EB village, along with her children Ainee, 4, Zain, 3, and Waleed Mushtaq, 2, was standing along the canal when one of the toddlers fell into it.

The woman jumped into the canal to save the child, they said, adding that the other two children followed their mother.

Locals gathered at the place and some of themjumped into the canal to rescue the family. A diver succeeded in bringing out the injured mother and fishing out a child`s body while the remaining two children went missing.

Later, a team of the Rescue 1122 started a search operation and found another child dead.

Efforts were being made to trace the missing child.

The woman was shifted to the THQ hospital for treatment. Her husband Mushtaq and family reached the hospital.

The Saddar police said they would figure out whether it was an accident or a suicide attempt.
