Petition filed against PM`s special assistant

2016-06-08
ISLAMABAD: A petition has been Sled in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the misuse of authority by prime minister`s special assistant Tariq Fatemi.

The petitioner advocate Raja Zahoorul Hassan filed the petition as a citizen.

The petitioner questioned that the prime minister appointed Mr Fatemi as special assistant to the prime minister in June 2013 but Fatemi has `imposed` himself upon Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has virtually taken over the office of minister of state for foreign affairs and enjoy `unauthorised` access to the `sensitive` documents of ministry.

According to the petition, the special assistant to the prime minister is not a constitutional post and he does not possess the executive authority.

It alleged that Mr Fatemi misused his authority as he obtained $71,000 from the embassy of Japan for a nongovernmental organisation, True Worth Foundation.

The petition said in addition to appointing unqualihed persons on lucrative positions, Mr Fatemi was involved in transfer of a 10 kanal piece of land to a private school.

The petition requested the court to order investigation against the special assistant to the prime minister on foreign affairs.

IHC single member bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah will hear the petition on Wednesday. Staff Reporter
