Khadija case: police told to provide record to suspect

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate at the Lahore Cantonment Courts directed on Wednesday the police to provide complete record of Khadija Siddiqui`s stabbing case to the suspect.
A s magistrate Mubashar Hasan Awan resumed hearing of the trial, the defence counsel argued that the police had not provided the accused record of the case. He said requisites of fair trial could not be met unless rights of the accused were protected.
The magistrate directedthe investigating officer of the case to supply record to the defence side and adjourned hearing till Thursday.MsSiddiquiwas also present.
The magistrate is holding day-to-day hearing of the trial as directed by the Lahore High Court chief justice.
Ms Siddiqui, a student of law, was allegedly attacked by herclassfellow Shah Hussain on last year near Shimla Hill where she along with driver had gone to pick her younger sister from school. Both sisters were about to get into their car when helmet wear-ing suspect attacked her with knife and stabbed her 23 times leaving her critically injured.
Civil Lines police had registered a case against Shah Hussain on charges of attempted murder. The suspect, son of an advocate Tanvir Hashmi, is on post arrest bail.
ADJOURNED: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday adjourned till June 19 hearing of a petition challenging detention of Jamatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and his aides to wait for a decision on the matter by a federal review board.
