SHC stays MDA chief`s posting

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday suspended two notifications, one for repatriating Muhammad Sohail to the Malir Development Authority (MDA) and the other for his posting as its director general.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Junaid Ghaffar also issued notices to the respondents.

The bench was seized with a petition filed by a citizen against the notifications issued on May 18 and 23.

The counsel for the petitioner argued thatMr Sohail in a somewhat similar manner was earlier transferred to and absorbed in the MDA but the Supreme Court through its August 2016 judgement had ordered his immediate transfer back to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The counsel submitted in court that Mr Sohail had once again been repatriated to the MDA and posted as its DG in a clear violation of the apex court`s order.

The petitioner has cited the Sindh chief secretary and local government secretary, besides Mr Sohail, as respondents.

He prayed the court to set aside both the notifications.
