DCOs asked to ensure foolproof security for Youm-i-Ali

LAHORE: The divisional administration on Tuesday asked the district coordination officers (DCOs) of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Nankana Sahib to inspect route of the scheduled mourning processions to mark the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (AS) and remove if there were any administrative, logistic and security deficiencies by Wednesday (today).

Youm-i-Ali processions are scheduled to be taken out across the country on Thursday (tomorrow).

`We want unprecedented foolproof arrangements in order to ensure peace, religious harmony and brotherhood. Therefore, the DCOs should visit routes andinform us by Wednesday (today),` Commissioner Abdullah Sumbal said while presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday.

While giving a briefing on the occasion, the DCOs said they had already set up control rooms at their offices to monitor the routes through CCTV cameras.

Speaking on the occasion, superintendent of police (security) told the participant s that all shops,houseslocated on the procession`s route were being monitored. Sniffing dogs would also be deployed on the route.

MPA Chaudhry Shahbaz and Majid Zahoor said all MPAs of Lahore would accompany the procession along with religious leaders and scholars from all sects. Ofñcials of the Lahore Electric Supply Company on theoccasion told the participants that 11 feeders on the main procession`s route were exempted from loadshedding the entire day.

SECURITY PLAN: About 38,356 policemen, 747 volunteers and members of 887 peace committees would ensure security acrossthe province onaccountof Youm-i-Ali.

This was decided at the regional police ofhcers` conference heldthroughvideolink and chaired by Inspector General Mushtaq Sukhera at Central Police Office on Tuesday.

As many as 181 processions and 863 Majalis are expected to be held in the province. They will be monitored through CCTV cameras, metal detectors and walkthrough gates. The Counter Terrorism Department, SpecialBranch and other agencies have also been directed to keep a close liaison for intelligence sharing with the field officers.

The IG also directed the SPOs and RPOs to nab all those fourth schedulers who failed to deposit the surety bonds.

All RPOs and DPOs were present through the video link. Addl IG Operations Arif Nawaz, Addl IG Special Branch Dr Arif Mushtaq, CCPO Lahore Amin Wains and DIG Operation Lahore Dr. Haider Ashraf and SSP Admin Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera were also present.

ARRESTED: Various price control magistrates on Tuesday had 11 restaurant owners arrested under the Ehtram-iRamazan Ordinance for keeping their premises open during the day.The officials also had 150 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging.

The CDGL has directed all town municipal administrations and the district health department to restart dengue surveillance keeping in view the monsoon rains with immediate effect.

LTC: The Lahore Transport Company claim to have checked 18,339 public transport vehicles during the last month and challaned 1,181 them for overcharging.

According to a spokesman, 1,164 vehicles were fined for having illegally fitted liquefied petroleum gas cylinders.

`Rs1.215 million collected as fine was also deposited in the Punjab government exchequer, the spokesman added.
