ISLAMABAD: The fate of the federal women university hangs in balance thanks to lack of coordination between Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), which administratively controls the model colleges.
In 2014, the federal government had decided to upgrade Islamabad Model College for Girls F-7/2 to university level and allocated funds for the project, but it seems that CADD has lostinterestinit.
CADD has been sitting on the draft charter, a prerequisite for starting the project, for the last two years, an official of the HEC said, adding without the approval of the draft charter, they could not start the project.
`There is no delay on our part, the draft law is stalled in CADD,` said HEC spokesperson Ayesha Ikram.
The project has already been approved by CDWP meeting in 2014 and was approved at a cost of Rs 998.436 million.
The federal government had allocated Rs100 million for this project and now, sources said that auditor general office also raised objections on HEC for not utilising the funds.
`What we can do, we are ready to start this project, but CADD officials are creating hurdles, perhaps they don`t want to lose the grip on the college, which is currently is in their administrative control, but when it will be upgraded to the level of university, then it will fall under the control of HEC,` said an official of education ministry.
When contacted CADD spokesman Attiqueur Rehman said he was not updated about the status of the draft charter.
`Yes, I know about this project, but at the moment I have no updates on the status of draf t charter,` he said. A Reporter
