Two die as tourists` van plunges into ditch

DERA GHAZIKHAN: Two men died, while 14 other were injured, three of them seriously, when a van carrying tourists returning from Fort Munro plunged into a ditch near Gurdu iron bridge on Sunday.

As per Border Military Police (BMP) officials, the two vans were bringing tourists, including 15 members of a family from Alipur, Muzaffargarhdistrict, were returning after visiting Fort Munro, a popular hill station.

They said one of the vans plunged into a ditch due to high speed and brake failure near Gurdu iron bridge.

As a result, a man identified as Rao Tariq and a woman, Sobia Amir Sultan, died on the spot and 14 others were injured.

The injured included Saba, Arusa, Tahrim, Amna, Rashid, Nasir,Kaleem, Mirab Fatima, Mishal Fatima, Masha, Nabiha, Arham, Sher Ali, and Ayan.

On being informed of the accident, BMP personnel reached the place and started rescue operation, led by Commandant Asad Khan Chandia. Rescue 1122 teams were also called.

The rescuers shifted the injured persons to DG Khan Teaching Hospital, where four of them are said to be in critical condition.
