PTI activist, relative shot dead

KARACHI: A senior activist of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and his relative were gunned down in a targeted attack near Karachi zoo in the Garden area on Thursday evening, according to the area police.
The officials added that Taufiq Ali Hoti, 50, and his relative Mohammed Arif, 56, were riding a motorcycle when armed motorcyclists opened fire on them near a traffic kiosk and sped away.
Each victim sustained two bullet wounds. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors declared them dead on arrival, said medico-legal officer Dr Nisar Shah.
The victims were on their way home in Malcki apartment, Garden, when they were attacl(ed.
`It appeared to be an act of targeted killing,` said City SSP Sheeraz Nazeer.
However, he added, whether the murder was politically motivated or related to some business or personal enmity would be determined after a thorough investigation.
Taufiq Hoti was a contractor while Arif had his own business, he said.
Karachi PTI spokesperson said TaufiqHoti was senior member of party`s city committee and former president of party`s district south chapter. He was also a close relative of former senator and Sindh PML-Q president Bostan Ali Hoti, the party spokesperson added.

They added that Fahmida Sohrab Khan was found dead at her home in Sheet 12 of the neighbourhood when her son, Faisal, returned home after attending his school.
She lived with her son, while her two daughters were married and her husband lived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The police ruled out the possibility of robbery bid behind the murder.
Body found A young man was strangled to death in Steel Town on Thursday, police said.
The police said the body with torture marks was spotted near a government school in Jokhio Deenar Goth. The corpse was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where his identity could not be ascertained immediately.
