Girl accuses police of protecting `rapists`

MINGORA: A teenaged girl on Sunday accused the Kalam police of not lodging case against four men who had allegedly abducted and raped her.
Talking to media persons here on Sunday, the girl, 16, along with her father, said two men, residents of Kalam Kas, had kidnapped her when she was going to her grandfather`s house.
`They kept me in an unidentified location for 12 days and then hande d me over to two other men of Jalband Kalam, who took me to Peshawar where for 13 days they kept me in their custody,` the girl said.
She said she managed to escape from Peshawar and went to Kalam police station but the personnel did not file FIR against the culprits. `The kidnappers are influential people as they have relatives in the police so the police are baking them,` she said.
On the occasion, the girl`s father said her daughter was kidnapped on June 20 and she returned home on July 22. He said he was a poor man and needed justice against the influential people.
`We are not satisfied with the performance of the investigation officer of police, Munir Khan, who is backing the accused in the case. We want him replaced with an honest police officer,` he demanded. The victim girl and her father appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the provincial chief minister to give them justice.
When contacted, DSP Ghulam Sadiq told Dawn that police were conducting inquiry into the matter and would soon reach the conclusion. He rejected the allegation that police were backing the accused in the case.
`POLICE HARASSMENT`: Several women of a family in Barikot on Sunday accused the local police of harassing them by making frequent raids on their house.
Sahirat, 60, who was leading the women, informed media persons at the Swat Press Club that the police arrested one of her sons, Irfanuddin, who is a drug addict.
She said they tried their best to put him away from drugs, but failed.
The woman accused the Barikot police station in-charge Akbar Hussain of having personal grudge with her family.
`During a raid the official misbehaved with my daughters and beat up my son who was sleeping,` she alleged.
When contacted, ASI Akbar Hussain rejected the allegation that police harassed the women. He said the police had arrested three persons of the family and also recovered drugs from their house. Correspondent
